I don't think I will be doing much direct research (looking up similar lists elsewhere on the internet), because part of the fun for this for me is compiling the lists with songs that I hear and identify on my own, but again, you can feel free to give suggestions for the lists. Just understand that I am not purporting these lists to be complete as they are.
This is intended to be a list of songs by popular artists. While I know quite a bit of music, I am far from knowing every artist ever, so you can make suggestions, but don't be offended if a song that would fit a category by your favorite artist isn't on here, especially if it's someone who is rather obscure. I'm not going to put songs by some indie band from Tuscon, Arizona with 300 fans on here.
